This is what I'm shipping out to Goodwill, right after I send this email:
By my count, it's the following:
thirty seven tees/polos/tanks
seven pairs of pants
ten button downs
sixteen sweaters
about two dozen pairs of socks (in fairness, some of these aren't pairs, they're mere sock orphans)
three pairs of shoes
four jackets
six ties
My guiding principle was trying to get down to seven of everything -- this was harder for some things (it's really hard to narrow things down to seven sweaters!), easier for others (my process of culling shorts was "okay, this pair doesn't fit and these I've had since tenth grade"). It wasn't quite Marie Kondo levels of ruthlessness, but it was close.
Suddenly, my drawers no longer appear to be bursting from the seams with college apparel. My closet looks sane and vaguely organized.
Maybe it'll last, or maybe my collection of clothes will grow anew and I'll have to go through this process again in a couple years.
Either way, this feeling -- of having cleaned, of having consolidated, of finally admitting to myself that I don't need that fraternity rush shirt from sophomore year, don't need that denim jacket I impulse bought but never really wore, don't need quite so many Fair Isle sweaters -- is a good one. My apartment feels lighter, and so do I.
Et cetera
I've been reading On A Sunbeam, a beautiful webcomic, for the past couple days. It's really lovely.
I wrote a quick piece on why things like Electron and React Native are probably the future of native development, even if the user experience isn't perfect (yet.)
