([sighs deeply] Tinyletter is bad with links and they didn't work in the previous one. Sorry about the double email!)
This weekend has been a pleasant respite at the end of a chaotic week.
As such, I have lots of miscellany to catch you up on:
- I took a mental health day on Thursday to just relax, decompress after a big launch, and be unproductive. This is a lovely tactic if you're in a position to be privileged enough to have a relatively flexible work schedule (which you probably are, if you're in the tech industry). I got an overdue haircut. I made the perfect breakfast sandwich. I watched The Larry Sanders Show. I felt calm.
- I converted Spoonbill's front-end to Vue, now that it's grown complex enough for jQuery and spittle to not really cut it. First impressions: there are some things I don't like about Vue (lack of typed properties, lack of testing infrastructure) but in general it is extremely pleasant and a great halfway point between the pragmatics of Angular and the opinionated future-proofing of React.
- I wrote about understanding why we do things, particularly with regards to front-end development. This idea -- of exploration versus exploitation in the realm of acquiring new technologies -- has been kicking around in my head for a while.
- Saw Logan last week and I Am Not Your Negro the week before that, both of which I recommend (though for very different reasons). Getting into the routine of movies feels good; we go every Sunday night (tonight we're watching Big Night!) and it's such a calm way to end a week.
- I listened to a podcast about how most sounds in cars are actually artificial, and I can't stop thinking about that as a symbol for artifice in general.
- I have been playing a lot of the new Zelda. It makes me so happy.
That's it. It's been a long week and a short week.
Happy Sunday. I hope you listen to some Thelonious Monk.
