Hey y'all. I hope you're having a good Friday.
Seattle's week started out pretty stereotypical: wake up to rain, walk to lunch in rain, go for a post-work walk in rain, fall asleep in rain. It doesn't really rain that hard here, but it definitely makes it a little harder to drag yourself out of bed in the morning and go through your routine (especially when your apartment is your office, and there's nobody to silently judge you for showing up unshaven in sweatpants.) And so each day I was waking up a little bit later: Monday at 8, then Tuesday at 8.15, then Wednesday at 8.30.
After a couple days of laziness, me and my partner resolved to actually wake up early on Thursday and Friday (I am adamantly
not a morning person, so my definition of "early" is 7.15am, but still!) As if rewarding us for our efforts, yesterday was
beautiful -- low 60's, sunny and dry. Today looks to be the same.
Some stuff on my end:
- I recently discovered Thrupence and have been binging through their discography. It's sort of halfway between Tycho and Nujabes and I find it thoroughly enjoyable music to code to. You should check them out!
- Here is a story about a stray dog who became a foodie. There are very cute pictures. It is a very good dog.
- After an unfortunately long reading drought, I find myself halfway through Trout Fishing in America. I'm really enjoying the book, but hating myself for being so bad at actually sitting down and reading. Does this happen to anyone else? I feel like the only place where I can summon the concentration to sit down and read for more than an hour now is on planes or trains.
- I wrote a short essay about my love of the Seattle Light Rail and finding shortcuts. The title of the essay is Hidden Elevators.
I hope you're doing well, and have some fun plans for the weekend (but also some time for yourself.)
